Unrepresented Sports are delighted to announce that respected journalist and commentator Tom Howe has accepted the role as its very first Head of Media Operations.

Tom, based in Cornwall, has spent much of his career in and around sports journalism, having graduated from Falmouth University in the summer of 2013.

He is no stranger to the world of non-FIFA football and was a pioneering figure in the formation of the Kernow Football Alliance, a representative international team for Cornwall*, in 2018.

Between January of 2021 and May of 2022, Tom was also Global Media Director for the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) and continues to be a figure of esteem for the ‘Unrepresented’.

“I am honoured to have been approached to become the inaugural Head of Media Operations for Unrepresented Sports,” he said. “I feel it particularly important given the dearth of consistent international recognition for those outside of FIFA – for varying reasons – in recent years.

“I am a major advocate for the power that sport has in reaching unrepresented peoples and am grateful for the opportunity to help collect and amplify voices from vibrant and diverse communities right the way across the globe.

“I am hugely impressed at the plans laid out by Unrepresented Sports, which will be shared in more detail in due course, and welcome applications of interest from anyone wishing to join our enthusiastic team of media volunteers, each of whom is raring to drive growth and create a clear impact for our participants.

“I have seen in my own everyday life the strength that the beautiful game can have in kickstarting conversations, breaking down barriers and building new areas of celebration, and it is our job to share these inspiring stories about football and identity with the world.”

Danny Clarke, founder of Unrepresented Sports, said: “We’re really happy to welcome Tom to lead the media team. The team will make up an important part of Unrepresented Sport’s plans moving forward so it’s great to have someone with both the experience for the role but also an understanding of sports for the unrepresented.

“Tom will deliver an understanding of unrepresented sports from previous roles and experience that isn’t easy to find and so we’re really grateful he’s agreed to get involved with Unrepresented Sports in its infancy moving forward.

“Tom’s taking over a small team that we hope to see grow over the next 12 months ahead of the first Unrepresented World Cup next summer and that time will be crucial for building the team we need so it’s important to have someone dedicated to the role that can oversee this.”

The inaugural Unrepresented World Cup is planned for 2025. For more information, including details on how you can get involved, head on over to http://unrepresentedsports.com or search Unrepresented Sports on X, formally known as Twitter.
